Just to show you that it’s not all fun and games bunnies and sunshine around here, I wanted to let you all know that yes I too can be a good parent gone bad.
I was slaving away answering client and business email and was not paying very good attention since I was concentrating on the task at hand. I’m a pretty good multi-tasker but when I’m composing emails to clients, I tend to want to at least be thought dumb instead of proving the point. I hit the send button and turned to see the Toddler in my office. What was Toddler doing? Spinning. You know that spinning thing where they nearly make themselves vomit and clunk their head on a hard piece of furniture only to rise again to see if they can do it again? Yeah, spinning.
You may be saying to yourself, “Well heck that’s not so bad Genuine, we all have our lapses in judgment now and then and we can forgive you.”
Yeah I know I often pick my battles and take the blame for things that might seem not so bad. Now the confession. As I turned back to see him do the third ride of playing “bonca head,” I noticed something different. Just as he began to fall it registered what it was about him that was different. He was HOLDING A BRASS LETTER OPENER!!!!
Just as he fell I could imagine the letter opener sticking from his esophagus and wondering how I would explain to my wife I was on the computer and her son wanted to see if it would hurt. Luckily it happened that he merely bent the instrument of death and saved daddy the task of surgically removing said letter opener from his body.
I got my hair cut yesterday and the barber asked me if I liked the gray I was getting. I easily retorted, “I don’t mind the look but the process really sucks.”

This Mom Blogs talks about her daughter dealing with a school bully. Her daughter has been threatened with violence and she seeks advice on what process to endure to deal with the problem. I hate to continue to advocate private schools and homeschooling, but at what point do we take back the public schools? Have we gotten to a point where we have no control over the safety and well being of our children?
The Zero Boss and I have been debating the issue of why a parent would want to homeschool versus public school a child based upon religious beliefs. We agree to disagree about that issue, and have yet to follow up his latest barrage of points, but this is something that makes my brain feel as though it is going to explode.
It seems as if the schools are saturated with bullies, partly because the district has ZERO interest in the plight of students who are being bullied. Their ‘grow a tougher skin’ philosophy, and their disciplinary policy regarding fights (a student defending him/herself is suspended as well as the student who threw the first punch) does nothing to solve the problem…it simply creates an environment in which bullies rule. Any child who does not defend themselves against a physical attack will be seen as weak, and is setting themself up for more problems.
I know many parents are frustrated with this type of egalitarian attitude towards schooling our children, but I say why should we not change this system of schooling? Homeschooling is on the rise in this country at a frightening rate of anywhere from 10 to 28% in some cases. Why are these parents choosing to take matters into their own hands?
Public schools are becoming an institution for the irresponsible and the morally bankrupt. Parents are beginning to realize that the system is broken and it continues to spiral out of control on its way to self destruction. They do not want to further subject their children to the lack of teaching and the lack of foundation that their children desperately need.
Sure life is not fair and we all will deal with bullies and those that would provide strife in our lives and I hope my children are experienced in ways to deal with this type of situation, but to allow the schools to take a position of inaction is negligence on their part, and this should be dealt with by them. Our children also need to know that their actions have consequences and with those consequences sometimes come punishment. To close their eyes and punish the victim in addition to the perpetrator is nothing more than ignoring the problem. What does this teach our children? As much as they hate to admit it, school administrators are shaping the lives of our future and I for one can’t sit by and watch this happen. Perhaps I need to try decaf?
It’s getting to be that time of year when I begin to make batches of green chili. The recipe I use for the “Genuine Killer Chili” uses Hatch chilis that we buy each year from a vendor that does the roasting on site. We usually buy a bushel of the chilis and it lasts until the next season.
On Monday I decided to make a batch of the killer chili and had some other chilis to add that we had in the refrigerator that I had picked up from the store. They were not jalapenos but was supposedly a step down from jalapenos on the heat scale. I guess I must have read the sign wrong and picked up the habeneros by mistake. Thinking that they were a step down from the normal jalapenos, I handled them like I would a green pepper or an Anaheim pepper. No big deal right? Two days later I am still feeling the burn of my skin beneath my fingernails from handling the chilis. At least I didn’t have a trip to the potty after nonchalantly handling said peppers, although I did pick my nose. No problems here with head congestion.
Sleeping in over the last four days has been a much needed change. The youngest or the Toddler make sure that we don’t get to sleep in too much on the weekends, so getting to sleep past 8:00 a.m. is a luxury that is well needed. Then suddenly when it’s back to the same old grind of getting to work and getting the kids to school on time, 5:00 a.m. seems like no sleep at all. Some of my best sleep comes at the hours between 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Who wrote the rule about time and for some reason being "ON" it?

A while back I talked about Home Improvement and how I wanted to plant some roses in front of the house after making a planter. Well after planting and pampering the rose bushes, I am proud to announce that all four rose bushes are thriving and blooming at the same time. From left to right we have a pinkish/red rose for Genuine Girl (of course), A yellow rose for Genuine Toddler, an orangish/reddish rose for Genuine Boy, and Finally a white rose for genuine baby. Each is actually thriving like the size of their namesake. We specifically gave them each their own bush to choose. I did good no?
No, I’m not specifically talking about the drumming I got from Sarah and the Goon Squad in Fantasy Football. I am talking about the crashing and burning of the server I use at Genuine. There has been a number of downtimes here over the last month and I understand it is not only Wired Hub, my domain host that is having this problem. I hear about many other hosting services that have down time. I have yet to hear of a server company that is guaranteeing no loss of service, but if you hear of one I would be interested. Until then we will continue to have some downtime here. If any of you would like a new hosting company I would be glad to let you in on the deal I get for my clients. If you don’t mind the occasional crash and burn.

Not hardly. I decided today I needed to stop and smell the roses. The way things have been at my work has been crazy, and with the second and third jobs and with a gazillion blogs I contribute to I needed to catch my breath. I decided to go back to using a blog editor that I used to use before. It should help consolidate my work into one place instead of logging on to the numerous blog platforms I can do it all from here, and yes, I want to try out their new ads that are available. After all I have to at least try to make some drinking diaper money out of this fiasco!

I’m sitting here in Starbucks at the Harrah’s Hotel and Casino in Reno. Why Starbucks? Well I needed to clear the cobwebs from last night’s bar run, and I needed to blog. Again, Why Starbucks? Last night as I entered my room and switched on the laptop to check email and stats and feeds and all those other things I tend to do 24/7, I search for the hotel’s Internet connection….and searched….and searched. That’s strange. A quick call to the front desk to see if I had to rent a cable or have a code or something, I asked, "So how do I get connected?" Figuring I’m in a casino in Reno I thought I should clarify. "How do I get on the Wifi or Internet?" *crickets* The clerk was not getting my dilemma. "I think we might have dial-up," was his reply. "Excuse me?" I asked. "I hear Starbucks on the second floor has one of those things." He said with a feeling of accomplishment. As I began to have my anxiety attack I hung up the phone falling back on my bed wondering why I was being punished by the Blogging Gods. What had I done? Knowing that I was defeated and not able to feed my addiction, I decided to do the next best thing, I called the clerk back. "Where is the nearest bar?"
No I don’t mean food in that way, although some would argue that my caloric intake certainly outnumbers the caloric burn, I mean my RSS Feeds. I literally read over 1000 feeds a day with the number of parenting blogs and business blogs that I subscribe to and that is only about half. I read my client’s blogs, my search feeds and many other categories. I have decided to whittle down that number to the ones that I actually love to read and the others, I can still visit but don’t necessarily enjoy reading. I mean blogs that talk about flux capaciters and techie stuff that is way over my head anyway. Don’t worry I’m still reading all of you! Someone has to watch over the blogosphere to keep it safe. Make sure you keep everyone in the know when your feed changes. I had about 10 blogs that moved and I never knew it happened. I figured they just were not blogging. Now I have like a day’s worth of catch up to do!
