My wife and I yesterday were discussing the unhealthy way yet easy way to feed the kids lunch. With the various Happy Meals, Kids’ Meals and such at each fast food stop, it is no wonder why kids today are obese or are overweight compared to a generation such as mine.
Then I had an epiphany. What type of food could you make as fast food that you could have a drive through that did not make a mess and was healthy for your kids? If you could think of this, I can guarantee a millionaire out of the deal. My commission? We can discuss that later. So what should we make? What food that your kids would eat, that is healthy, that can be done in a drive-thru, that is fast and easy?

WEIRD! HH and I were just discussing THIS EXACT THING! After packing lunches for HG the last month because she’s on her healthy kick (which is not a bad thing mind you) I have become even more aware!

fresh, pre-cut fruit — we just had a great pre-lunch at Whole Foods in the produce section!
PB sandwiches
tortilla wraps/quesadillas with low-fat cheese
fruit/protein smoothies
cheesey rice w/veggies
That’s all I can think of right now. Our other favorite meal right now is the snoopy dinner special — yogurt, a small side of Chex pretzel mix, and a banana. Popcorn is optional.

If I was that brilliant, do you think I would leave all of my million dollar ideas here? Like some kind of sucker?
Ha!
Nice try, Genuine.

How about Baby food, like Gerbur. When they drive up to the window you say “Hi! Can I help you?”, and when they say yes you say “How many jars?”
Easy!

Low fat wraps, lots of cut up veggies and fruits. (fun shapes?) Kids will eat lots of healthy things if they look cool–or are decorated. Remember, I thought of this!! By the way, Colorado was loads of fun, and Alison did really well. I am hoping to be back some time, just for recreation.

Need a quick lunch for the kids but you’re in a hurry?
No time to break out the skillet and grease to prepare a gourmet meal for your little ones?
Then head on over to PBJ’s!
Offering the latest in Peanut Butter cuisine, PBJ’s is the place to go when you are in that mad rush of on-the-go activities!
No time to dine in, use our child-friendly drive-thru!
Choose from The Classis Combo of peanut butter and grape jelly quartets and a disposable sippy cup of vitamin d milk!
Or, if you and your child are in an adventurous mood, why not try the Gen X Meal Deal….peanut butter, raisins and wheat toast make this meal a definite winner!
So, the next time, you’re in a crunch for time, drive on over to PBJ’s…and leave the slicing to us!

Do you watch Top Chef on the Bravo network? They had a challange where they had to get children to eat MONKFISH (eww, wanna talk an ugly looking fish?)…they made these fish nuggets out of them, had colored yogurt for dipping fruit in, and the kids just lapped them up! Healthy and portable! And definitely for the drive-thru portion, make the meals come on some sort of disposable tray, not a friggin bag that you’re forever fighting with. This way the tray can just sit on their lap so they can have everything (sans drink, because us parents aren’t THAT dumb) right at their fingertips and you don’t have to keep reaching back and spraining your shoulder just to give them one more carrot stick! Add to that menu some sandwiches (nothing designer, just simple, ham, turkey, ect), and then there has to be something for the adults to, to make them want to drive through.
I’m recommending Martini’s…but that’s just me!

TV preferes Carboyles (it’s a cereal, which I forget the real name), or anything you would normally eat in a bowl or on a plate, he likes it served in a plastic sandwich bag (no milk on the cereal, of course). It makes dining on the go a snap.

I like Randi’s fish and yoghurt dip – I might go for that myself. On holidays in Queensland Australia recently we enjoyed pineapple on a stick – simply the pineapple with all the peel sliced off stuck on a huge stick and you gobble it … oh … you wanted non-messy … Back to the drawing board

I don’t have kids, but I would guess having fun food disguised into fun shapes would allow them to eat better. Also, part of the problem is portion size. No one wants a 1/8 or a 1/16th pounder.
I think the Wendy’s Freschetta sandwiches are on the right track. Now they just need to find the kid market on that. And also not load it up with more than an ounce worth of meat.

Personally I start to crave fat stuff after a while on the healthy part of town..
Isn’t there some kind of human trait that makes you eat fat things in order to “accumulate” for the dangers that may lie ahead?

[...] A post at Genuine blog made me think of the big opportunity that lies in creating a chain of fast food restaurants like McDonald’s. The unique selling point would be to sell fast food, but healthy food. [...]
