A Genuine Celebrity Dad

I’m beginning a new category here at the Genuine blog because more and more celebrities are joining the ranks of fatherhood.  I want to talk about some of my favorites, some of them that need some advice (think Tom Cruise) and some of them that should have their fatherhood license revoked.

patrickcolorhs.jpgPatrick Warburton has been more of a part of my children’s lives than he ever was my own even though I was a Seinfeld fanatic.  As many of you know, Warburton played the lovable and laughable character of Puddy, Elaine’s on again off again boyfriend.  We all chortled at his New Jersey Devils face paint, and his great one line zingers in the television show.

Of course now, Patrick Warburton is “Mr. Voice” of animated movies and cartoons of all sorts.  We recently purchased the DVD “Hoodwinked” for our children as a reward for not hurting anyone or breaking anything during a recent visit to the dreaded Costco. That dreaded store we love to hate.  I watched the movie with my children that night, and right away I recognized Patrick’s voice as the wolf.wolfpw.jpg This character is classic Warburton with his wit and style of comedy.  I looked over at Genuine Boy and asked him if he knew the voice of the wolf, and he looked at me with that look of “can’t you see I’m watching cartoons?” that he always seems to get when I interrupt this most important time of his life.

It’s Kronk“, I said thinking that he would cheer my trivial knowledge of cartoons.  “I know and Buzz Lightyear,” he said looking again like I was a fly to be swatted away.  Apparently, he is the authority on all things cartoon and didn’t need me to assist him in watching or identifying characters.  I wanted to snap back with a trivia question about Seinfeld, then remembered that he was not even a gleam in Daddy’s eye when that show aired so the moment was lost.

kronk.jpgWarburton is becoming the mainstream actor in children’s shows and animated films, but he has also voiced for some adult type shows such as “The Family Guy“, and of course who can forget “The Tick.”  He has done some other movies, but for now he is no longer Puddy as I knew him in the 90’s, he is Kronk.

Warburton is only 8 months younger than I, but he is an experienced father of his own 4 children.  He and his wife have Gabriel, Shane, Lexie and Talon.  I’m sure that having four kids has helped him with his characters.  I wonder how strange it must be to hear your father scold you and see Kronk in your mind’s eye?

“Yeah sure Kronk, I’ll take out the trash.”

Patrick if you are ever in the area, stop by and see me, I would love to watch my children try to figure out why Kronk is not always animated.

Great blog post! I loved Puddy, too!

Can I say that I LOVE him in “Emporer’s New Groove”. Absolutely love him. This is the ONLY animation movie that has me rolling with laughter each and every time. Him and the old lady just kill me.

I need to have some kids soon, it’s getting embarrasing making these confessions.

Talon? He named a kid Talon? Imagine going through life named after a bird’s foot or a zipper!!

  4. Lorna Says:

good one; it reminded me for some reason of seeing a play in which a very close friend of mine had a minor part—I only had eyes for him and dozed through all the parts he wasn’t in and missed a really good play, but I couldn’t have done it any other way

  5. Shan Says:

Great post…other than the fact your kid said Buzz Lightyear and that was Tim Allen. Geez…kids these days…just don’t do the research. Ha ha :p

Loved Puddy! He was one of my favorites on Seinfeld besides Elaine! I can’t believe he has 4 children!! Can you imagine him in the delivering room trying to tell his wife to “push!” I’d just laugh my ass off.

Are you sure you aren’t a fly on the wall in my house? The girls and I play the “Guess Who’s Voice This Is” all the time. For the record, I LOVE Patrick Warburton.. hubba hubba!

Genuine..I am delighted that you are a fan of my husband..I am , too! He really is such a wonderul father. You would never know that someone in the entertainment industry is such a family man…A few comments:
Regarding Buzz Lightyear..yes, he voices the morning cartoon, not the two movies.
There are many compliments regarding his voicework for Kronk. I agree! He has been nominated for an Annie Award for the weekly series of Kronk’s New School and I am very proud of him. Someone wrote about the “old lady”..voiced by Eartha Kitt. He worked with Eartha on the Buzz Lightyear series,as well. She voiced Gravatina.
Regarding our son Talon. We were thinking about the bird of prey variety, not zippers..Most people are unfamiliar with the connection to zippers unless they are seamstresses! :) Our son is quite the nature lover..he truly IS Talon. He also never gets teased about his name..he likes it. (“Cool name,” he says, just now, stuffing his face with Trader Joe’s Cheese puffs.)
That is all for now..you have a great site.
    CW
ps: Patrick is not like the character Jeff that he plays in the new show Rules of Engagement. He is naturally very funny and playful….there is a considerable amount of levity ( though not inappropriate) in the Warburton household. All of our children have a great senses of humor, as well.
