I don't often make rants here at Genuine, but when I see something that touches me and makes me ponder about life, I want to pass that on to you. I want you to ponder as well and to know about the greatness of a single human act of dedication to his country.
Black Five posts about the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year Award.
He asks, and I joined him and agree, Pat Tillman deserves this honor. For those of you that don't know who Pat Tillman is, you should know his story. Pat was a professional football player with the Arizona Cardinals, and gave up all of the fame and glory of the NFL, including a $3.6 Million contract to serve his country. For his sacrifice and courage, he lost his life. No questions asked, he answered the call to serve his country.
His story is truly what I hope to instill in my children and he can be a role model for all of us. God bless Pat Tillman.
I was writing this post when I found out that the SI Sportsman of the Year was the Boston Red Sox. Now I know that they deserve kudos for winning the World Series, but this was the perfect opportunity for the media and writers to show the true spirit of sportsmanship. I do give him my vote.
I followed that story from when he first enlisted. I think he is/was amazing and there is no greater sacrifice.....Yes, a TRUE HERO
I agree with you. But did you really expect SI to give sportsman of the year to someone who actually, *gasp* realized that there are greater things than playing football?
Because goodness, that wasn't very sportsmanlike to quit to serve your country, now was it. (There was sarcasm there, somewhere. Where's my coffee??)
He was a great son. A great brother (joined up with his brother). A great player. A WONDERFUL example of a human being. Taking responsibility. Taking pride in his country. He is definitely MY sportmans of the decade!
