Like most of the other sheep, I have IE for my browser. Lately I have seen and heard quite alot of praise about Firefox by Mozilla. I'm a conservative....I don't do well with change. I am interested in being on the cutting edge of browsers since I seem to spend more time on the internet than I do sleeping eating, or any other daily function. If my life can be made easier and more efficient and protected, I'm in.
Have any of you made the switch? I have not operated any other product besides the IE that I have, and again its too much like work to learn another browser. Can anyone give me their 2 cents about Firefox?
Since I've dl'ed Firefox, I've been using it more and more. It seems to render sites, especially blogs with heavy scripting and CSS, better than other browsers I've tried. Its fairly fast. I like having a couple of browsers so I can see how my site render in each. It is free, so you might as well give it a shot. What could it hurt?
I never use IE if I have a choice.
I use Opera for 95% of my web surfing.
I use Firefox to access Gmail, until Opera comes out with their new release that supports gmail better.
It (Firefox) is free, why not give it a try?
I switched to Firefox a month or so ago when I got sick of the popups on IE. I had some sort of spyware I couldn't track down. I made the switch and it has gone well.
I also don't handle change well, but this was okay. There are still a slight few sites that don't work and I'll have to open IE, but for the most part I'm glad I made the change.
I've been using Firefox for about 6 months now and I can't stop singing its praises. The "tabs" are my absolute favorite feature. I can open up several different blog pages in one window and then have my recipe/music/graphics pages open up each in their own window. It amounts to a lot less toolbar clogging. lol I love the bookmark features and the lack of pop-ups is a HUGE bonus!
Take the plunge!

I am a technophobe and detest dealing with ads, popups, etc. I switched to Firefox about 6 months ago despite being a Microsoft-fed idiot. It works wonderfully. No popups, no problems, joy all around.
after getting hit hard with spyware, after my browser getting hijacked, I found out the IE is totally to blame because of their shitty security, SO, I was told to switch to firefox.
LOVE.IT.
You can import all of your bookmarks and such. Only pain is having to download the plug ins, but it's not that big of a deal. I have YET to get hit with spyware or pop ups. Well, except for the one time I ACCIDENTLY opened IE instead.... BOOM! SPYWARE EVERYWHERE.
I freaking hate IE now.
Firefox rawks! :) It's easy to use too. The tabs are super - the desktop looks so pretty with just one window open. It's really easy to use. The fact I don't get pop ups is just faboo. I really recommend switching.
Have no fear Genuine, I switched about six months ago and love it. I even bugged the computer guy until it worked correctly on my office computer.
Well, having worked as an application integrator, I was such a Microsoft person. But I LOVE FIREFOX! Do what I did... use both at once. There are some great extensions with firefox, too, including one where you can view pages in IE if you want (right click, choose that command).
Um, did I mention that my Finace worked at Msft for 8 years before moving here to be with me...did I mention that we still get benefits from those people. Did I mention he has an interview with them next week.
That's all I've got to say about this issue.
I use Safari (Mac-centric browser) which also has tabs, and whenever I do use IE (which is extrememely rare), I so totally miss the tabs function that I end up shutting IE right back down. Though I love my Safari, I too am considering giving Firefox a whirl. Have heard not one negative thing about it as yet.
My hubby does computer stuff as his full time job - he switched over several months ago and says he wouldn't go back. He says that pages that look weird in IE look perfect in Firefox. I haven't changed over - but he's trying to convince me and says it is WAY better. So there is HIS 2 cents -
I've been using FireFox for a couple of weeks and I like it a LOT. Like other people have mentioned, you can import bookmarks from IE, it's got tabbed browsing (aaaaaaah!) and popup-blocker.
There's plenty of bells and whistles that you can add at your own convenience - I added the ad-blocker, which blocks most banner ads, and as a result sites load much faster (and there's less spyware to clean up afterwards).
I love FireFox so much that I'm going to start running it off my USB memory stick on the computers at school :-)
Oh, and it's very easy to "skin" using 'themes' - I use a theme with small buttons for the back/forward/reload/stop/home buttons so I get more space for actual display of a page.
I *heart* firefox.
We have Firefox at the college and I love it! Still have Windows XP at home and hate it. But I don't know enough about computers to switch, so Hubby has promised to do that as soon as his schedule gets a little less hectic. (I hope I haven't died of old age by then. . . .) I'm a really ignorant computer person, remember? But we both like Firefox much much better than XP.
Another Firefox-lover chiming in late. I love it. I only open IE now to see if pages I'm creating load correctly. Sometimes what looks great in IE looks like doo-doo in Firefox and vice versa so I keep both. But for surfing I use my tabbed-browsing, pop-up-stopping, adware-beating Firefox and love it! :)
Firefox is 'The Bomb!" (as my young daughter would say, heh...) I wouldn't go back. Keep in mind that MS isn't really doing much to keep their browser software current, and they (according to industry reports) won't be doing much new development other than defensive patches and the like for a while.
Embrace change. Change is good. Change can be your friend.
Just a random passer-by. I was hesitant to make the switch myself, as I am used to coding for Internet explorer and IE can view things a lot better but I was forced to switch due to spyware problems. Mozilla is very fast and I love the search option at the top (I suppose you can compensate with the google bar..but this one has more! And you can add your own) Ever since then, I'm happy to say that my spyware problem has come to a halt and it's kinda fun coding for both browsers. Gives you that uh..satisfaction I suppose. So yeah, give it a try. :) Hope that helps! Peace - Annie
I switched at home a few weeks ago, after a friend of mine here at the office got eaten alive with spyware. Love it! The only problem I"ve had so far is that I can't see Dooce's pictures in it, but I'm sure that's a plug-in I haven't loaded yet. I LOVES the tabbed browser -- I can have Skatemom, my webmail and my penguin running group open all at the same time!
C'mon G, all the cool kids are doing it!
I use Firefox... but was forced to change because IE disappeared off my computer (still haven't figured that one out) and I do have to say I really love it!! There are still a few sites that don't support Firefox... but I haven't found one that is so important for me to have a fit about it!
Just passing by off of Inkjet Blues and I had to leave my 2 cents.
I switched from IE to Firefox over a year ago and I haven't had a single problem yet. I still use the .0.9.2 version as the newest releases don't support the extensions I have to have.
I love my spell check as well as the sync bookmarks and sort bookmarks. I do have the GMAIL notifier and love that too.
I had hubby switch this past summer, he's been using IE at work and home for YEARS. He's not really into change, but he loves the tabs and how everything just loads up quicker, no pop-ups too!
Switch and try it, you won't be sorry, you will love it!
You will LOVE Firefox 1.0. And once you learn how to play with extensions (plugins) you'll go mad with the fun of it.
Other than the conveniences mentioned already, the great thing about Firefox (and Opera and a few other non-IE browsers) is that they're being designed with web standards in mind. Designers that follow proper HTML design techniques have very little problems with Firefox, but they have to create special "bug fixes" in order for sites to show up correctly in IE. Read more about W3C standards and my own intro to Firefox.
I made the switch as soon as Firefox came out. I have the hubby using Mozilla on his comp and Firefox on mine. The best part of Firefox is Sage...the rss/atom feedreader. There are so many great features that you really have to try it to feel it.
I was wanting a change and happened to see an article in PC mag about MyIE2. It's close to IE but incorporates a lot of what is supposed to make Firefox and Mozilla great. And it was free.
You can download Firefox and insatll. I have both and you can bounce back and forth to see differences.
I made the switch from IE to Mozilla and then to Firefox quite a long time ago. I am a multi-tasker and love to have a billion and one windows open at once. I love Firefox so much because of the tabbed browsing and the popup blockers. Not to mention all of the cool extension you can get to make it do really ummm cool things.
I still keep IE around to check to see what my blog looks like when I am making a change. I don't know if I could go back to using it full time though.
I love Firefox. No pop-ups, no creepy security issues and plenty of customizability with all of the extensions you can add on.
