I used to actually get to read blogs before I started my blog business. I guess some things must be scarificed in order to become successful, but at what price? Since I began working late every night and have neglected my readership, I have seen a heavy decline in my site traffic.
Was it something I said? Actually was it something I didn't say? This is another very telling statistic when wanting to increase your blog traffic. The more sites you visit amd the more comments you leave on sites, the more your traffic will rise.
Graph via TTLB
and me ... my traffic's gone down too (particularly from your domain :-P) since my actual reading dropped off. but i'm trying to get it back slowly.
I can see that to a certain extent. I think when you leave a comment on someone's site, they're prompted to come see you.
I try not to do that though, I have my favorites (like here!) that I like to visit and comment but I don't stop visiting because they don't comment on my site. If that makes sense! I'm rambling.
I know what you mean about sacrifices... I had to cut back on a lot when I went back to school. It sucks, but it will be worth it some day - as it will be for you! :-)
Have a good day!
yeah, only 550 daily visits, which is still 10X the traffic I ever see...
I think everyone has been either sick or busy or both. Is there an "overall traffic" meter to compare to?
Never fear, Hoss is here. You are in my "Favorites" list -- and always will be. Thanks for existing.
So that's why my stats are down too!
It's all Genuine's fault!!
As long as you ping Blogrolling, I'll keep visiting!
Are you still blogging? I had no idea! ;-)
You can keep me if I get some Matt. Oh, what am I saying. We've been together since high school. I guess I'll stick around longer. (But seriously dude, would a comment here or there kill ya?)
I'm still here! I try to check in daily or whenever you ping blogrolling. I haven't been commenting much of anywhere as of late, I feel like a lousy blog reader sometimes.
Maybe it was me? I just started reading your blog. Maybe I scared them away? Hmmmm . . . . *walks away from computer scratching head*
YES! The exact same thing happened to me so I shamelessly whored myself in today's post...just like you're doing here.
Isn't it you that taught me that comments = traffic? Don't worry about it. Popularity isn't everything. (That's what they say, anyway.)
Well that was depressing, you get more traffic in one day than I do in a months time. At least I didn't get into this blogging racket for the traffic, I'm here for the beer.
I'm with Jenn...comment and they will come...but, I'll keep stopping by because it's either that or do laundry and I have no life ;o)
I'm here, after a brief hiatus...I know what you mean about traffic being down...not that I ever had the traffic load you do. Oh hey! We forgot about your guest blogging for me last week (or rather I just forgot) how about in March for my next trip out of town??
I hath no pity for you! I'm lucky to get like 30 visits a day, and I'm damn pleased just to have those! Quit your bitching! Ok, I'm just being mean... I'm sorry your have been losing visitors. :) Here have some Crown.
That's very true, the more sites that you comment at, the more traffic that you will recieve. Most sites/blogs that I visit even "return comments," a common courtesy from blog owners.
Well, I don't comment very much here, but I'll be straight-up on this one. I always make a point of visiting the sites each day of the people that visit me and comment -- kind of a loyalty/friend thing. So, the big sites where I feel like I'm just a "number," I only visit if I have the time and even then, I rarely leave a comment unless it's a topic that I just HAVE to say something about.
It kind of reminds me of going to a large state school versus the small private school where the professor actually knows your name.
Clearly it's not registering the 4,000 times I hit everyone's site on my blogroll each and every day.
Poor G, only 500+ inbound visitors daily... What's a superhero to do?
I'm sorry, did I put my bitch hat on today? Let me take it off.
You are allowed to slack off on visiting and commenting G. You are building a business! And what an exciting thing to do. Besides your true fans won't forsake you! I still visit every day that I can make it to my blogroll!
Ironically, my TTLB rating shot up. Hmm.
I love your blog, but then you already know that.
And I agree with the multitudes, you are getting 500+ visits A DAY, buster, shush up.
I think it's a little bit of both. It's hard enough work maintaining one's own blog these days, that sometimes visiting others seems too much.
That being said, a person doesn't have to visit me for me to visit them. Maybe it's because I'm still "small time" compared to this site, but I still comment on every reader's site who takes the time to stop by mine. People like to feel special every once and awhile.
But, if I visit a blog a lot (hint, hint) but don't feel the same interest in return, I tend to move on.:(
No love lost here. I'm just sorry I don't always have something witty in the way of a comment. My Gramma used to always say, "if you don't have something good to say, don't say nothing at all"....
I will read you regularly whether you visit me regularly or not. For me, it's not about reciprocation for me. It's about relationships, wit, or writing quality.
Hey =)
Well your blog is the only "family content" blog I visit. And 500+ readers would cause me to faint in disbelief! I get 27 visitors a day =} Mine is more a personal blog and not really a fun, friendly blog like yours so I'm sure that explains a lot. I hope your readership increases again because your blog is very well done.
I'm here everyday rain or shine. I guess all these comments don't really explain where the 200 other people went, but as someone said earlier, you are entitled to do something different for a little while. I don't think you really have anything to worry about until you get down to my numbers.... er ....number. ;-)
I find this interesting G. You and your site and your readers are what first got me noticed back in June of last year, and I was always amazed at your traffic and your energy in commenting and reading, and in fact have had many conversations with you about the subject. I just resigned myself to the fact that you had more time and energy and sheer willpower to go visit everyone and get yourself out there and "known" and I concentrated on writing and trying to turn out the best work I could.
My graph would be the inverse of yours, as my traffic has doubled and redoubled to the point that I'm getting 1.2k a day individual hits.
And I have you to thank for it, you've always been generous and enthusiastic in mentioning my site.
Maybe it's time for me to return the favor.
In the meantime, let me make two observations. One, you probably are working too hard and stretched too thin.
And two: your site is much different than it used to be in the old days. I consider your site more of a hub of information and news. I say this because I find less and less personal insight and posts that I want to comment on, and more about projects current events, cool happenings, etc.
It's not a good thing or a bad thing, it's just part of the evolution of this particular work of art.
You're making a business, and I'm writing for writing's sake. Maybe you've lost touch with some of your readers in the process.
I haven't come by since I got jealous about the new baby. That's the most honest thing I've said in a while. I hope I don't get eaten alive here. I also changed my blog recently.
I'm sorry, that sounds so petty. I do care about your traffic J.
