Hello, my name is Genuine and I am a Daddy Blogger. There I admitted it. They say that is the first step to recovery. Being a Daddy Blogger is not all that bad actually. You get to rant about your kids, commiserate with your wife, and you earn camaraderie with your fellow bloggers. This peer group of comrades I refer to are all of the Daddy Bloggers in the Blogosphere. Metro Dad recently posted about finding other Daddy Bloggers and I realized that there are many of us Daddy Bloggers in the blogosphere and we never seem to cross paths. I had no idea how many or what blogs were out there and I felt like I was missing out on something special.
I had an idea to expose some of the Dads and their blogs. A Genuine Daddy Blogger of the Year. How does a Daddy win this prestigious award? Well, it has nothing to do with prestige but everything to do with the nomination. Like my buddy Jay and his Blogging for Books contest, I’m holding an essay contest. In 1000 words or less, a nominator writes about why they believe their nominee should become the Genuine Daddy Blogger of the Year. This written essay is then posted on a blog. Anyone can write an essay, except the Daddy Blogger himself writing an essay about himself, which is over the top even for me. Of course, if you are a Daddy Blogger and want to expose your own candidate feel free to submit your nomination.
You need not be a blogger to submit a nomination. If you are a lurker or merely a reader of blogs, and would like to nominate a Daddy Blog, send me your nomination via email, and I will find someone to post it for you. I’m sure I can find a Mommy (read Mrs. G) out there that would be happy host your post. There is no limit on who may submit the essay, and I would encourage children of Daddy bloggers to submit an essay on your parent’s blog. Yes, even a child of a Daddy Blogger can submit their own nomination on their Daddy’s blog. In fact, I think that would be a great Father’s Day gift for any Dad.
Once all of the submissions are received, I will choose from the entries to determine the Genuine Daddy Blogger of the Year. By the way, I won’t count off for spelling and grammar, well, because if you have read this blog you know why. Just submit your entries by posting them and emailing or commenting here where we can go and see your entry. I will make a final list of entries for everyone to see.
Entries must be completed no later than June 10, 2005, at midnight Pacific Time. I will announce the Genuine Daddy Blogger of the Year on Father’s Day, June 19, 2005.
Good Luck! Now get writing!
Wow.
You've caused me to consider what kind of blogger I am.
I talk about my kids quite a bit on my blog but I don't have a site title like "dorkydad" or whatever.
Thanks for the identity crisis.
Well I'll be darned, June 10, 2005 is MY 50th BIRTHDAY, the day I get a laser skin rejuvenation treatment, begin the botox injection series and a hook up with a boy toy 25 years my junior. But like Tish I feel I should do something.
Good idea Jim, but since the grand prize winner has already been announced on another site, I'll refrain from submitting an entry here.
Since we already have Mommy and Daddy bloggers, I think the time is ripe for Grampa bloggers to be recognized.
Any thoughts on this?
