Does anyone know a good rain dance? It is a little warm here and my well nurtured lawn is gasping for air, and needing refreshment. The sprinklers came on this morning as I was leaving for work, and you could hear the moisture being sucked into the ground as steam rose from the sidewalk and driveway.
Last night was lawn mowing night because today is trash day. I assessed the situation last night and a cut and trim was not in the cards for the yard. I figured a little height on the blades would help shade the poor roots from baking in the cloudless afternoon. At least that was last night's excuse for staying indoors and not exercising my body cutting the grass.
The temp is rising now, but then I look at the conditions the troops are having to endure in Iraq, and I slap myself for complaining, while I set here secure and safe in my air conditioned office. I am greatful for my situation but I'm also a little greedy. Can't I just have a little sprinkle?
Little do most people know, the Chicken Dance is actually an ancient rain dance. (Ever wonder what happened to Amilia Erhardt? She knew the truth of the Chicken Dance. You didn't hear it from me...)
Careful what you ask for. We just got a little rain is S.E. Iowa. The humidity is now climbing to uncomfortable levels as the afternoon sun and heat vaporizes that sought after moisture.
Thanks to the leaks in our roof from the hurricanes, I'd be more than happy to send some of our rain to you ;) Either that or start painting the outside of the house, that usually brings around rain or hailstorms here :D
TO BRING RAIN
Take some water in your hands and say:
Rain, rain, come our way.
Fill the sky, soothe the land.
I give you water from my hand.
hey, it's worth a try.
Here, the kids do the snow dance so they can get out of school for a snow day! Really, people did do rain dances in other cultures. In Maragoli, where I did my anthropological research, shaman used to go out into the fields and dance to get rid of the locusts.
