There should be a rule that the Mommy and the Daddy are not allowed to be sick at the same time. One or the other may be under the weather, but being sick at the same time is simply forbidden.
As I laid in bed at 4:00 a.m. trying not to cough, but of course hearing the rattling of my lungs, I also heard a cough and sputter coming from next to me.
We have been wiping noses and shouting at children to "Cover your mouth" when they cough, and we have been washing hands and trying to remain sterile and germ free, but it appears that dodging those bullets was not enough. Both Mommy and Daddy are now doing the hacking and coughing dance, or what I refer to as "Dueling Flem Extraction". As she steps from the shower, I hear her gasping as her lungs are filled with cooler air, and then the coughing starts. As my lungs are filled with the steam, I too answer with the bronchial clearing tune. Suddenly the bathroom sounds like a rendition of "Jingle Bells" sung by dogs barking in unison.
Both of us looking at each other wondering if it would be possible to ignore the fact that we have 4 children to dress and ready for school and daycare. Wondering if we could climb back between the sheets while sleeping off the ill effects of wiping noses, holding coughing our children.
I for one think that there should be a rule. You would think after 4 children, we would built up some immunities by now, but I think that we are in for the long haul on this flu season.
Anyone have a good chicken soup recipe? I have been taking the cough medicine in the purple bag but it seems not to be the cure all.
Surely you know the drill by now: If you take good care of yourself, your cold will only last a week. If you ignore it and go about your business, it will only last seven days. Keep smiling.
Both of you have it now? Ugh. Good luck! I've been there done that, and will probably do it all again this winter. You have my sympathy...
Every time my kids got something, I got it...OR, I got it somewhere else and gave it to them! This year I've been taking vitamins and I haven't caught anything! Lesson, take vitamins!
I think you need to increase your dose of that medicine in the purple bag. It may not cure you, but it'll smooth the rough edges.
Aleve. I take it for anything and everything. It won't cure it, but you'll be past caring after a few of those little blue wonders.
When things were bad here, I was doing the oovy-groovy herbal supplement drill to build our overall immune systems: a week on Echinacea, a week off. Lather, rinse, repeat - for everyone. It worked!
And I did discover a great OTC product for helping thin that flem - time release guifanisen (the same stuff that's in Robitussin), in pill form. My pharmacist highly recommended it; it helped tremendously. The brand I got was called mucinex, IIRC.
I hear that if your immune system isn't tested and built-up as a child, then as adults, we tend to be more sickly.
Oh and FYI - Campbell's has, like, 4 varieties of Chicken Noodle soup, now. They are all pretty yummy!
Feel better!
I feel your pain on this. My wife and I and both our kids were all sick last week. It's really fun when one of the kids is an infant sleeping in the bedroom with us. So if she coughs, we wake up panicked that she's going to choke. If we cough, she wakes up from her sound sleep and shrieks. No one slept, period.
Of course sleep, rare commodity that it is, is probably the best thing to help us all recuperate. Not gonna happen!
I feel quite badly for you, really.
