Mark Burnett Talks To Me About Being A Dad

It was an awesome opportunity to get a chance to talk with the founder of the Survivor series and The Apprentice show while I was out in Vegas for BlogWorld & New Media Expo.  Here is a quick glance at it:

For more of our coverage at the Vegas trip to Blog World, get over to Dads Talking and check out all the coverage.

Captain America Monologues and The M3 Summit

I always chose being a Super Hero, or in my case Captain Genuine for my kids as their Father.  This is something I ran across and I love the monologue and actually its message.

My congratulations to Bold Ben Ryan for putting this video up and for his message. To help further his message I’ll let him state his organizations here:

To Help Children Around the World In Need:
http://www.unicefusa.com/
Or to help the Real Life Captain America’s Of the World:
http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/
and
http://iava.org/
Thank you so much for watching.

Sincerely,
Ben Ryan

Now if I could just figure out how to get my hands on that shield.

Those of you that are also interested in an organization I helped found and a conference for the Daddy Bloggers and for men, please go and visit the Modern Media Man Summit or what we are calling the M3 Summit.  We have a great team of people that really want to put on a great event for Dads and Men.  The conference is taking place on September 9-11, 2010. Go check it out. Registration is now open for the early birds that want the biggest savings, and we are also asking that speakers that want to present at the event submit their applications.  Like Captain America rallying the troops above, Captain Genuine now is calling all Dads to unite and get ready to assemble!  See you in Atlanta!

Desperately Seeking Baby

I was going through my search feeds this morning and ran across something that caught my eye. Not because it was about the lovely and overall hotness of Eva Longoria, although that in itself may be enough to get my attention, but the headline of the post.

Eva Longoria Parker “Desperately” Wants A Baby, Producer Says

acdt.jpg Yes, even I read The Celebrity Baby Blog, if nothing more than to find out that celebrities have a tough time raising kids. Well that is not usually what gets reported but you and I know better. The post title used apparently the quote from the producer.
Desperate. I never thought of having babies and the word desperate in the same sentence. Don’t get me wrong I know of many people that for one reason or another cannot have children. In fact, I read many infertility blogs about parents that have tried and failed to have children. The notion of that breaks my heart.

In my first marriage, both of us wanted children. We were both healthy adults and both prepared for our world as parents. For nearly seven years we tried. We tried ovulation charts and rhythm methods and many other tactics, even standing on your head just to see if it worked. This was all to no avail. I suppose it was a blessing as I later became divorced and would never speak another word to my ex-wife after that time. It was like a bad dream and a chapter in my book to get to the next and better part of my life.

Mrs. G and I never had a problem with the notion of conception. We often joked that every time my wife did the laundry, she turned up pregnant. No, that doesn’t mean that my wife only did laundry once a year. Nearly all of our married life was spent birthing our four children. I think we still need to figure out a way to be a married couple and not be pregnant, which in itself is an entirely whole other blog post.

Desperate. Why Eva is their desperation to have a child? Are we trying to keep up with the rest of the crowd in Hollywood? It seems that the new black is pregnancy these days. Do you think that a child and baby is going to fill a void in you and make you a whole person? If that is the case I’ll pray for you as you perhaps have more issues than you realize.

Having a child is a miracle. It is a blessing. God will provide that miracle and blessing when the time is right. In my first marriage, the time was not right. In my life with Mrs. G every time she did laundry the time was right. To my friends that are having problem with infertility, there is always a reason. Perhaps not the reason you may agree with, but there is a reason. All of you will be loving parents if the child comes as easy as mine have or if you must adopt or have other measures to accomplish your goals. Never be desperate, but know that when a child comes and you hold them for the first time, the only thing that remains desperate in your world is the health, the safety, and the welfare of that child.

He Did What In His Cup?

pullups There are many things that make a parent roll their eyes, shrug their shoulders and give the look of “oh well they are after all kids”, and I have those moments usually daily.  Those moments sometimes make me chuckle like a 6th grade boy all over again.

Genuine Baby, or I guess he is actually the toddler now and I should change the moniker, has been trying to be potty trained but for whatever reason he kind of lost hope one day and stopped trying to earn our praise.  He is currently in the Huggies Pull-ups.  Part of the problem is that he is completely obsessed with his “Kachow”, or for those of you that have not seen the movie Cars 45,678 times like I have, the character of Lightning McQueen.  He has the Hot Wheels car of Lighting McQueen and he refers to it as his Kachow.  He had “The King” but for whatever reason he wanted to see if that car could swim and flushed it down the toilet, but I digress.

pistoncup He wears the pull-ups and refers to the characters as “My Sally”, “My Kachow”, “My Mater” and well you get the idea.  I tried once to tell him that he cannot pee in the pull-ups because he would be peeing on his Kachow but he only looked at me like I was smoking crack.   The makers of Huggies Pull-ups make it easy to determine if the child has peed in the pull-up because they have little cups on the front. These cups are made to look like the Piston Cup that is the award in the movie for winning the season, not unlike that of the Cup in the real NASCAR season.  The cups on the front will disappear when the diaper becomes wet.  I am forever giggling when looking at or thinking of these cups disappearing, not because I enjoy my child not being potty trained but because of the movie quote of Mater (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy):

Lightning McQueen: I’m serious! He’s won three Piston Cups!
Mater: [spits out fuel] He did WHAT in his cup?

Even the three year old is getting into the game as he ran to me this morning and shouted:

Genuine Toddler:  Daaaaad, his cups are gone again!!!!

Genuine:  What?

Genuine Toddler:  His Piston Cups are gone.

Genuine:  “He did WHAT in his cup?” [giggle, snort]

See it is the little things that keep us parents going some times.  I do suggest that if you don’t have kids or have not yet seen Cars, you run out and see it right away.  To the makers of Huggies I love your sense of humor in putting Piston (pissed in) Cups on the front of your diapers.

Vanessa Hudgens Is Naked In My House

My daughter is totally goo goo ga ga over Vanessa Hudgens who we all know has been in the news recently for appearing naked on the Internet.  I really don’t know what the big deal is, because Hudgens, better known as Gabriella from the movie High School Musical, is always naked these days in my house.

gabriella

Gabriella was a doll my daughter received as a birthday present and like every other doll in the house, she is quickly stripped of clothing. We were glad that she has left the idea of being like Britney Spears, but now I’m not so sure about wanting to be like Gabriella.

Proof Positive Pregnancy Put on Pounds

Mrs. G and I were watching the movie Ultraviolet the other night, and she mentioned that she wished she had a body like that again.  My quick response was something about not having beautiful children.  After four kids, I think she looks just fine.  I was looking through some posts over at the Celebrity Baby Blog and I just had to show her what I saw.

milla_jovovich

Yes, that is Ultraviolet.  My challenge to her is 4 kids in 6 years and then get back to looking like this without airbrushing.

milla

Talk about an impossible mission.
